My Story

Hello!

Thanks for stopping by. I’m Heidi Tai, an Asian Australian writer who grew up in Sydney. I love a strong coffee, getting lost in the Marvel universe, and pumping 90’s RnB and Hip Hop beats. I am married to Mikey, and together we lead Providence Church and host The Greater Story podcast.

As a writer, I am committed to sharing honest words from a hope-filled heart. In a space dominated by filters and fake news, I wanted my pen to cut through the noise, and point readers to hope and truth. Here, you will find content where life, faith and culture intersects. You will meet the person behind the pen as I share my upbringing as an insecure child and troubled teenager, the challenges I faced in an immigrant family and my unexpected journey of meeting Jesus and planting a church!

I first heard about Jesus when I was 15, but I refused to believe that he could love a messy girl like me. Although at school I was the class clown, behind my mask was an anxious heart that had been deeply hurt and abandoned. I spent many years searching for love and self-worth in boys, success and popularity, and made many regrettable mistakes along the way.

Crushed by guilt and shame, I looked for answers in the Bible and was surprised to discover the lengths that Jesus went to love women like me. He restores the Sinful Woman who was shamed by ‘good’ religious leaders, forgives the adulterous woman after she was exposed, and saves the Samaritan woman, despite her failure to meet community standards. At the age of 20, I put my faith and confidence in Jesus.

As a Christian leader, I want to use my voice to create safe spaces for real talk. In a world that is so shallow and filtered, the church should be the one place where authenticity exists, where friendships invite honest conversations, and where the community offers hope and restoration in the gospel of grace.

Ultimately, I hope that my words will give you a taste of the love and mercy of God, shown to ordinary and imperfect people like me.
