Tell Me

Tell me why you left,
what exactly did I do?
You were always more than enough for me,
but Shame condemned you a fool.

Tell me how you truly felt
That balmy night in May,
When you couldn’t look me in the eye,
When Guilt pushed you far away.

Tell me what you live for,
what exactly have you lost?
Who stole your fire for love and life,
was your dream not worth the cost?

Tell me who you’re trying to hide
behind that fragile facade,
I see your mask that hides the pain,
your fortress of lies and scars.

Even popular girls feel lonely,
Even successful girls feel small,
Even girls who are seen feel invisible,
Like flowers we bloom and fall.

So tell me, what’s your story?
There is no darkness beyond Love’s light.
Let your hard heart be softened by Hope,
your worthiness secured by Life.

“All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
— 1 Peter 1:24–25

I recently wrote down some words that I would share with my 18 year old self. What words would you share with younger you?
