Poem: Unstoppable

Who knew idols were so flimsy,
that health and wealth cannot save?
Who knew the power of fire and flood,
to bury hope in a grave?

Who knew that calendars would be cancelled,
that 2020 would be stopped and chained?
Who knew that cities would be torn apart,
as cries for justice are aired in vain?

Like a child, there is much I do not know,
I weep, but not without hope,
for I have received a message of salvation,
from a believer who once boldly spoke.

I know a Truth which cannot be buried,
a Saviour who conquered the grave,
a Spirit of love and power,
and a Father who is merciful to save.

I see the Lord is always before me,
with Him I cannot be shaken,
even the darkest valley will lead me to life
an eternity that cannot be taken.

Though our headlines shake and crumble,
our Lord will build his church,
saving his people from sin and death,
reviving stone hearts with flesh and rebirth.

Though tomorrow may look uncertain
as first-world idols continue to topple,
let us anchor our souls in the word of God
unchained and unstoppable.

“But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.” — Acts 12:24

I recently penned this commissioned poem for my patron Gary, the Executive Director of Crusaders Union (CRU). He requested a poem inspired by the book of Acts which describes the Spirit’s work in building the church and spreading God’s word. In Gary’s words, “in this period where our world is facing such unrest and uncertainty, knowing that God is continuing to build His church is a source of wonder and joy.” It is my prayer and hope that “Unstoppable” encapsulates the wonder and joy of God’s (unstoppable) plan for salvation in 2020.
