New Hymn: Abide

One of the joys of starting a Patreon account is being able to meet people around the world who are committed to sharing truth, beauty and stories through art. Recently, aspiring song-writer Jane Kang invited me to contribute some words to her new hymn “Abide” and I had the joy of weaving my poetry into the chorus.

“There is no darkness beyond Love’s light” is a line that I hold close to my heart as I had once penned this as a response to God’s mercies shown to the Sinful Woman in Luke 7. I wanted this line to convey the transforming love of Christ and the sufficiency of the cross to heal our wounds and to silence condemnation.

Scripture ref. John 15:1-5; Psa. 86:13 Habb. 3:17

Verse 1:

Abide in Me, and I in you,
Abide in Me, I love you so,
Apart from Thee, dwells no good thing,
My soul found rest before your throne.

Pre-Chorus:

In every valley my Shepherd leads,
O heart be still, come rest in him.

Chorus:

Where failures abound, His mercies are more,
There is no darkness, beyond Love’s light.
In fire and flood, our hearts need not fear,
Come my weary soul, be still and abide.

Bridge 1:

Though the fig tree does not bud,
and there are no grapes on the vines,
I’ll rejoice.
Though my heart and my flesh fail,
I will rejoice, Oh I will rejoice.

Bridge 2:

For great your love is toward me,
you have delivered me,
from the depths of the grave.
Now there’s fullness of joy in
knowing the One who died for me.

Pre Chorus 2

The night is gone, the Day is near,
be still my soul, find hope in Him!
