Jesus Wept (You Can Too)

My faith may change my perspective towards pain, but it does not make it hurt any less. If you’re walking with someone through a valley, don’t try to rush the grieving process.

If Jesus wept, and if He shows us what it looks like to be truly human, why are our churches so adverse to tears?

Why do we dismiss people of their doubts, or force them to wear a facade?

In suffering, why do we say terrible things like, “if only you had more faith…”?

While society tells us to put on a brave face, Jesus shows us that true courage admits pain. True courage is running towards the Father, even when life doesn’t make sense. True courage is asking, “Lord, help me.” True courage is confessing, “me too” or “I don’t get it either.” True courage is surrendering to the One who understands our tears, who draws close to the broken-hearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (Psalm 34:18)

In a world that shames us for hurting, let’s remind one another that on this side of eternity, there are moments that are worthy of our tears. And yet there is always hope because the One who wept is returning, and on that day our wounds and scars will be healed, and every tear will be wiped away. (Revelation 21:4)
