10 Commitments for 2022

One of my favourite New Year’s traditions is to slow down with pen and paper and to reflect on the year that has gone by. To kick off 2022, here are 10 commitments shaped by life lessons learned in 2021!

  1. Instead of resenting interruptions and cancellations, I commit to entrusting my days and hours to the One who establishes my steps: In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. – Proverbs 16:9

  2. I commit to unmasking the pride in my self-sufficiency by accepting and asking for help.

  3. I commit to loving others not just with words and sentimentality, but with action and truth.

  4. I commit to learning about a vulnerable group in my community and finding ways to serve them.

  5. I commit to Sabbath rest—entrusting my future and burdens to the God who never grows weary: The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. – Isaiah 40:28

  6. As iron sharpens iron, I commit to greater accountability, honesty and feedback in friendship.

  7. I commit to setting right expectations in motherhood, work and ministry. Life under the sun will come with thorns and thistles but I will hope in the better Eden—a restored Garden, free from the futility of fruitless labour (Revelation 22:1-3).

  8. I commit to learned contentment—comparing my gains and losses against my eternal reward in Christ: For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. – 2 Corinthians 4:17

  9. As long as it is wise and loving to do so, I commit to meeting with my church family and not taking the physical gathering of God’s people for granted.

  10. I commit to fostering child-like faith—to carve time for offline activities and spiritual disciplines which inspire awe in my Creator.
