I’m pleased to share my recommended reads, videos, songs and podcast episodes for this week!

1. Oma’s Applesauce

An inspiring creative channel, documenting the life of Hendrika Van Genderen who lives with Alzheimer’s disease and Vascular Dementia. Videos are filmed and edited by her son, Jason Van Genderen and gives insight into the lives of patients and caretakers. Grab a tissue and be inspired by this truly special family.

2. Rest

Kris Sinclair shares a poignant reflection on the theme of “rest”. With only 250 words, Kris made me stop, think and sigh with relief.

3. 12 Beirut Ministries Respond to Lebanon Explosion

Reported by Jayson Casper, Beirut’s evangelical leaders describe the damage, how Christians are helping and the need for hope beyond politics. Pastor Tony Skaff says: “More than anything else, the Lebanese people need hope…They lost it in their politicians, in the health situation, in everything.”

4. The King of Love – Greg LaFollette

Take a moment to breathe, pause and meditate on the words of this gorgeous hymn, written by Greg LaFollette and inspired by Psalm 23. This song is available on Spotify and added to my Hymns of Hope Spotify playlist.

5. IMBetween Podcast: What Your Doctors Wish You Knew About Rest

Do you sleep 8 hours a night and still wake up feeling tired? On Episode 111, Daniel and Christina Im interview Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith about the 7 different kinds of rest and why you need each one.

6. Remembering Our Peace

Lara d’Entremont shares how knowing God is our source of peace and how we can remember his peace in the day to day. She writes: When we feel restless and overwhelmed, it’s not about climbing and grasping, but about remembering what we already have.

Stephen McAlpine shares how hope in our grief can pave the way for apologetics in a year of public grief and fear.
